Fun film which has nothing to do with our history

Forget the bad comments - this film is 60 years old and a vehicle for the diminutive Mr Ladd, with good British support and shot in England. Sure it's a hitch-potch of legend and a bit of history taken out of time but it had a reasonable storyline and a happy ending, filmed less than a decade after the end of WW2 when this country was digging its way out of depression and ration books and National Service were still around. Definitely not as bad as some of the comments - Alan Ladd was probably the Vin Diesel of his time!

Got to admire the comparison to Diesel. I hadn't thought of that. Great commentary. Fun film which isn't meant to be taken as a history lesson, but a lesson in morality, and it works.

Maybe some people born in the 1930s were used to happy endings, but those of us born after about 1950 were force fed nothing but hate and depression, so it's great to find what few inspirational films there are, films like this.
