this movie in general

Joyce Grenfell, Alastair Sim, George Cole are standouts.

The rest of the cast, the plot, the antics, the twists, this movie rocks.

If you haven't seen it, see it. If you know someone who hasn't seen it, make them. Force them if you have to.

Enjoy all the others as well.

It's finally out on DVD in Australia and New Zealand, but not in the U.S.! That's just too cruel! Does anybody know who to contact to change that? Thanks!

The easiest and quickest way to enjoy this gem on DVD (available in region 4 fromn Australia) would be to invest about $30 on a region-free DVD player. It may take generations before it's released on NTSC region 1.

I saw the collection in the UK this summer, and wondered if I could get it in the US. The collection is not available, but the first one, Belles of St. Trinian's is. I just got it for about $15 from Amazon.com. What a great treat!

All four movies are now streamed on http://www.tvgold.org/ (the quality isn't great, but it's better than nothing.)

This film was released in the UK along with three other British comedy classics - The Pure Hell of St Trinians; Blue Murder at St Trinians; The Great St Trinians Train Robbery.
They form a DVD set 'The St Trinians Collection' isbn no:060034 577560.
I paid £16 (approx $31) for the set at HMV.co.uk or you may buy it at Play.com and have it sent wherever you live. All four films are true British classics. Enjoy!!

The large public-domain purveyor, Hollywood's Attic (aka: Nostalgia Home Video) which still sells 95% of their titles on VHS, has published a remarkably nice print of this film on DVD.

I purchased it recently, expecting (perhaps) to see a transfer-to-DVD-from VHS, but I was pleasantly surprised by the clarity and almost-new quality of the print.

Hollywood's Attic had an "All Rights Reserved" warning on the back of the keepcase.....and the DVD itself, carried the standard FBI warning about piracy....so who knows.....maybe we will see some more of these great pd films resurrected and preserved for good quality DVD release in the USA.

I transferred my VHS to DVD and it looks sterling.

I don't know if US versions of DVD players are different, but in the rest of the world most DVD players can be easily converted to be region-free, often by simply pressing a particular sequence of buttons on the remote. This is because manufacturers don't want to have to make different machines for different regions. Which buttons vary from model to model - just Google "region free hack" and the model number of your machine - you might be pleasantly surprised. Different regions DVDs can be ordered from the relevant countries. For ordering region 2 DVDs try "Amazon.co.uk" or any other site with a .co.uk ending.

For Americans, the PAL - NTSC format difference is often a bigger issue than the region coding.

A great many DVD players can, as you mentioned, can have their region coding changed (including to Region 0) through undocumented (relative to the official users manual) remote control command sequences ...... although some do require a more hardware based solution, such as changing dip switches inside the box (and any opening of the box tends to void manufacturer warranties).

However, the majority of DVD players and TVs in the US can not read the PAL format. To be sure, there are a number of models that do, but it's not something that you can assume will be true of any given brand / model that you buy without checking that specifically. You have to go out of your way to figure which of the models you're thinking about will play / convert PAL.

Amazon now has it on DVD from Wham! USA

As does Oldies.com

Just watched it on VHS from my library.

Still pretty good, despite it's age.

It's now on BluRay in the UK.

For me it was just a good old-fashioned comedy, with plenty of amusing characters and dialogue. 7/10
