On Encore Westerns Today (4/4/2014)
Battle of Rogue River will be shown at 7AM Central Time on Encore Westerns this morning, Friday, 4 April 2014.
It's a good color western with good action and Martha Hyer is totally gorgeous.
Encore Westerns ran it again last week, so I recorded it and watched it last night. I was pleasantly surprised. I would add a review, but the three reviews already submitted sum up the film's virtues quite nicely.
My only major complaint would be the use of white actors in brownface to play the Indian speaking parts. There were plenty of Indian actors working in Hollywood at that time. Or they could have used Mexican or Latino actors, which was common at the time (e.g. Rodolfo Acosta, Perry Lopez, Eugene Iglesias). Chief Mike was a most interesting character and the film would have been more effective with an Indian actor in the role.
