Wondering about the Spanish

I know this is an odd thing to be wondering about, but I'm curious. I don't speak the language myself so I couldn't tell. Did Ava Gardner really speak Spanish? Or was she faking it really well? Thanks.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

Ava Gardner lived in Spain for many years in the 1950's and 1960's (her neighbor in her Madrid apartment was exiled Argentine president Juan Peron). She had meager education but was quite intelligent. I'm sure she learned to speak Spanish.

I wondered that also. I do not speak Spanish, but her Spanish and her Spanish "accent" sounded very good to me. I was impressed - it's hard to get into a movie, when one of the actor's accents is so phony it glaringly stands out, and I thought Ava's was very convincing.

It wd be nice if someone who knows the language cd put in their two cents on her accent and the un-subbed dialogues.

All I know is that when her mother was talking to her when Maria was standing at the door, I heard the word cadaver, so I'm guessing she said something along the lines of, Over my dead body!!

I dont know a word of Spanish, so I'm just guessing. :)
