A couple of trivia bits concerning this film

According to Esther Williams' autobiography, "The Million Dollar Mermaid", "Athena" was originally written by a writer named Leo Pogostin, director Charles Walters, and Williams herself. The original story was about the goddess Athena coming back to life in the 20th Century. Esther Williams was pregnant at the time, and took time off from work to have her baby. When she came back to work, she assumed that she would begin work on "Athena". Instead, she found out that studio chief, Dore Schary, had given the project to Jane Powell, and that it had been heavily rewritten as a vehicle for her. The other bit of trivia is that both Virginia Gibson and Nancy Kilgas also appeared with Jane Powell in "Seven Brides For Seven Brothers".
