I thought it was a comedy

A plane lane crashing and stops dead immediately in front of an unblemished country house, no fire or spilt fuel and pilot (John Gregson)walks out uninjured holding neck - Called in for tea, old boy? The dialogue throughout is hilarious. Jack Hawkins looks like he can't keep a straight face.

Yes, I agree. I'm struck, really, by what an unusual film it is. There's bravery, but no great heroic deeds. Characters make mistakes, break the rules, but in small ways. It seems to be a film about everyday life on an airbase during a war more than a war film.

Certainly! This film never had sky high ambitions to give a detailed outline of the Battle of Britain, but rather sketch the effects of the war on a small rural squadron. I think it was pretty successful.🐭

More like a typical propaganda film that had to be shelved for at least ten years cos it would gave the trade secrets away to the Gerrys.
