This is somewhat reminiscent of the TV version of Flash Gordon having been shot in Germany (also shot in 1954). Man the production values of that stunk!
I can confirm that this series was filmed in France. I was the child actor in the Mother Hubbard Case and living in France at the time. Nicole Milinaire, the production manager came to UNESCO where my father worked, looking for an English speaking 7 year old girl. I guess I qualified probably being the only one available even though I was 8 at the time. I was tall for my age and the wardrobe mistress has to lengthen the pale blue costume by adding a satin ribbon to the bottom hem.
If you listen carefully to the man in the mustache in the Brighton scene you will notice that although he speaks impecable English there is the trace of a French accent. Also for the sake of veracity the seaside shot is definitely not Brighton. I now live very near Brighton and the beach there is pebble... Also out of interest the first address I gave in the film is the address that I lived at when in England.
Thank you so much for posting! I love to learn such background info...as if my brain isn't already overstuffed with such minutia LOL! Haven't been across the pond since the 60's and would love to visit again before my mortal coil unwinds.
shareYou are welcome, I'm quite surprised and excited by the appearance of this film on You Tube. I had never seen it in its entirety before. I had looked for it several times in recent years, never knowing if it had been shown or if it was just one of those things that never made it to the screen.
The first series was all filmed in a very short time and at very little expense so I understand, as the production company were not sure whether the American TV they were producing it for would actually use it. In the event they did as there was more than one series.
I have not been back to France for a few years now, not having any relatives or friends there any longer. I do miss being there though as many of the memories of a child depend on their location. My memories all come flooding back as soon as I hit French soil.

awesome ive only just started watching these, mother hubberd the best episode.
