I just watched an episode with Natalie Shaeffer (sp) from Gilligans Island fame. Even though I hadn't seen Gilligans Island in many, many years and the episode was filmed 10 years before Gilligans Island debuted he presence jumped out unmistakably and I immediately recognized her. I always wanted to be adopted by Thurston and Lovey, but my mom and dad wouldn't go for it. :-/
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is aired daily here in Dallas on channel 31.4. I'm happy they show it..rather interesting! I ask how many people know who Ronald Howard is and they ALWAYS mention Ronny Howard from "Happy Days".. Try that one next time you feel like playing trivia with some dull headed twit. ;)

A friend of mine sent me a DVD with four episodes on it, and I promptly went to Amazon and bought the series (I just love Sherlock Holmes, but except for a few movies, had really only seen the 'greats' - Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett.

I really liked the shows, and was astounded how much Ronald Howard looked like his father, Leslie (though I admit, at first I wasn't counting right and thought the Ronald was a younger brother, or something!)

I like Howard's rendition of Holmes - he seems younger and has the kind of pawky sense of humor I think Holmes would have to have.... and I was also amazed how good the episodes were, considering they must have been doing that show on a shoestring budget.

A lot has been written about what a breakthrough David Burke and Edward Hardwick made in the Granada series back in the 80's and 90's, but really, H. Marion Crawford started it with his portrayal of Doctor John Watson.

As an aside, I have been reading some arguments lately about how one should pronounce Inspector Lestrade's name... is it lesTRADE (Rhymes with grenade) or lesSTRAAHD - nobody seems to know. Even talking to someone who lives in England, the subject is not final. Some argue that lesSTRAAHD sounds more French, but the show was filmed in France, and they pronounced it lesSTRADE. Go figure...

A great series, I just wanted more episodes.

I'm watching the Texas Cowgirl episode now, HOlmes and the London officer have both said 'LeSTRAYED'.

I distinctly recall Jeremy Brett saying 'LeSTRAHHD'.

Ronny Howard all but is saying the D as silent.

On an ep I saw yesterday they said LaSTRAHD, so the name had both pronunciations.
