Anybody know what the theme music was?

I remember that the theme music was an instrumental march that I liked quite a bit.

I saw a another show that took place in the jungle in which this music (in what I'm quite sure was the same performance) was being played on the radio. The characters spoke disparagingly of it, saying things like "that awful music will scare the natives away."

Soon afterwards, the theme was changed to another march, which seemed quite undistinguished to me. I guess somebody with some clout didn't like the original theme.

Anyone know anything about this?

I used to watch this show when it was brand new. I just happened to tune into it this morning on Antenna TV. The theme music played is not what was in the show back in the 50s. even the end credits have been done over, probably because the original credits had the sponsor's logo in the corner of the screen - as I recall, it was Nabisco.

The music may have been altered due to some rights issue with the composer wanting more for the use of it now than Sony considers it worth paying. Even the background music appears to be different. Perhaps the shows fell into public domain and by adding new music, they were able to copyright it again.

I caught this show on Antenna TV as well. I hate the "new" music. Sounds like they took it from an old silent picture. In my opinion, it ruins the show. They also edit the show, cutting here and there. Haven't seen they DVD release yet, but I hope too.

Some of the music used during the show however does sound as if they wanted generic spaghetti western music. It just doesn't fit a 55-year-old family western.

That might be what happened, though the new music for the show really hurts it, IMO. Because of the changes there, they have had to overdub some of the speaking parts with present-day actors who sound nothing like the originals. What a mess!

No blah, blah, blah!

Imagine to have to go through all of that trouble instead of just renegotiating the original music - if that was the issue.

Other than looking at a Christmas themed episode in December 2012, I have not bothered to check out the show again since my first post in this thread. The only reason I watched this past Christmas was because I noticed the episode and I wanted to see it again as it was the first Christmas episode of any series that I ever saw in my youth - and the first time I ever heard "Silent Night" outside of school.

Complete episodes are now available on YouTube, with the original theme and incidental music, and in some cases, with the original commercials. Enjoy these gems.

I think of myself as pretty hip about retro stuff for someone my age, but I don't think I knew that they didn't use ZIP Codes back then, also not the standard two-capital-letter state abbreviations. So you would have had to write out "Calif."; but then again, you wouldn't have to wonder if "MI" is Missouri, Minnesota, or Mississippi.

Bugle Call "Assembly" and "Theme No. 50" from the MUTEL/CAPITAL "Q" series library was the opening theme. The closing theme was "Theme No. 46" (aka "Game of the Week March) also from the MUTEL/CAPITAL "Q" series library.
