the day the clown cried

a quote in this movie ends up being a title on another in the franchise, on this note, as the title suggests they travel on vacation, i expected a foreign country, not a city... the extraordinary cross on the wall looked really out of place though a common sight in movies where they travelled to other countries, also the italian and african references end up being a part of this story. i found an old review of this and apparently critics at the time was of the opinion the lead actor was wasting his talent in this franchise, it wasn't until i saw the lead play two different roles in one of these goofy flicks i realised the diversity of his acting abilities, though i've always known (and found it so misplaced considering his goofy trademark role) he has a part in a dark jerry lewis movie (the day the clown cried) that has never been released since it was shot in the 1970's, the movie critic's reviews of these flicks are so mean i prefer not to read them, but funny how now half a century later these titles and part are a household name and constantly airing on different channels and from my perspective enjoyed by young people and remarkably doesn't include views that today can be attacked.
