So they decided to nuke the aliens in their nest outside Los Angeles, and whilst the military and scientists have full protection, you have hundreds of idiotic exposed people with NO PROTECTION AT ALL sitting on the mountainside, waiting for the blast, and they promptly get hurt en masse!
