Going to Extremes

September 17, 2020 Thursday 11:20 p.m.

While the Martians come off looking like bullies, attempting to subjugate all life on Earth in a desperate bid for survival, their entire motivation and use of their technology represents colonialism, that is to say, survival of the fittest (okay, Darwinism too).

Even with their advanced civilization they are not immune to getting held captive by the age-old instinct of being guided by fear. What this means is that technology and knowledge is only an extension of their people and does not completely define them. They were their own worst enemy in these film's events.

It begs the question what we can learn from the Martians' mistakes.

We are safe from any attack at the present because of Covid.

That's a good point. Well stated.

Covid-19 is proof that not all dangers are vicious, creepy monsters hidden under our beds or behind closed closets but are microscopic and a harder threat to fend off. We are learning right now to the take the virus seriously and reasonably.

The virus in many ways is like a wake up call since it reminds everyone we have something to lose, even those with little to their name.

Nice catch.

The aliens were really desperate then if they're willing to colonize a planet so toxic that it can kill them, even if they eventually had the means to terraform our world.

I need to see Signs.

It has Mel Gibson's involvement. If it's not good, at least it will be entertaining!

Thanks for the recommend.
