quicksand?

I think I saw this movie shortly after it came out. I actually saw it twice, even though I didn't care for it the first time, because it was half of a double bill and I wanted to see the other movie twice.

But, quicksand. If this is the movie, I think there was a scene where the soldiers are hauling a cannon through a swamp and right into a pit of quicksand. They have an awful time extracting them selves. On the second viewing, the quicksand area is very obvious and I wondered how come the soldiers didn't see it.
