Should I Watch This?

I really liked I Wake Up Screaming, the first movie based on the novel of the same name. Laird Cregar was a genius in his role as the detective. Victor Mature was excellent as well. If you have seen both films, do you think Vicki lives up to the original movie?

Funny thing, coincidence. About 2 weeks after watching I Wake Up Screaming I found out Vicki was to be on TV. I watched it. Yes, I would recommend it. However, I strongly recommend the original over the remake. Overall, I felt the acting was stronger in the original. And if you are a fan of Noir, the tones used in the original are darker, thanks to lighting choices. The only thing I can say against the original is it was a little uneven in theme, i.e. at times it is a little light, but not too much. The editors helped this by removing Betty Grable's scene in which she sings. Vicki is Noir all the way. So watch both movies, but if you have to choose, pick the original.

I thought Vicki had some fine noir moments.

Thanks for the review! I just found out about Vicki. I was checking future listings for I Wake Up Screaming, then coincidentally saw the description for Vicki and figured it was a remake. Tonight Vicki will be on one of the classic movie channels (I think the "MOVIES!" channel) so I'll get to see it.

Mag, Darling, you're being a bore.

Go ahead and watch it. It's not great but it's also not as bad as some have said either. It's a whodunit. If you like those, you'll like this even though there are some flaws.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
