A movie for the 1st week of August

I watch certain movies at certain times during the year ---some movies follow the theme of the calendar very well----they may fall on an anniversry or just fit the season ----I watch 1776 on the 4th of July ---Groundhogs Day on Groundhogs Day ---Scrooge (A Christmas Carol)on Christmas and so on........
Mr. Hulot's fits the 1st week of August very well ---The summer has taken the corner on its last round--soon school will start and the leaves fall --and Jacques Tati tribute to summer as a time of vacations is perfect. It wouldn't be the same or done as well at any other time of the year.

August may be the vacation month for the French and some other Europeans, but in the US June and July are also thought of as vacation time. School gets out in early or mid-June, so many younger people think of June as the start, in fact, the Memorial Day Weekend, which comes toward the end of May, is the traditional "start of summer", even though that is three to four weeks early.

But I think garrytreat's point is that by August, summer is nearing the end, and this is a nice tribute to it.

I just watched it tonight. It's part of my near the end of summer ritual too. I want to watch Summer Rental with John Candy soon too.

I agree. I once saw it at a cinematheque one lazy Saturday afternoon in late July and it was incredibly relaxing.

For people on vacation in summer, it may feel like they are one of the guests at the hotel, watching Hulot go through his antics, and getting in the casual state of mind that Hulot is conveying.
