Why won't they release a remastered DVD for this?

Has anybody else seen this movie? What is your opinion of it?

i just happened to be home this afternoon and watched this on TCM. thanks to Tivo i now have a copy. i couldn't wait to get online and see what IMDB folks have to say about The Twonky. its a great film, definitely worthy of cult status and and a remastered DVD! i feel like i'm part of the secret Twonky society! thanks TCM! where would we be without you!

just saw it on TCM this afternoon....and recorded it, of course! It was great. An odd little film, starring the great Hans Conreid. It was filmed, it seemed, with a hand held camera in parts (I don't know if they had any cameras that were of light-enough weight....but the closeups were awesome..for example, in the kitchen when Conreid is mixing up a Bromo-Seltzer). Read the reviews on IMDB and TCM database, once I'd learned it was going to be on TCM, and I was not disappointed. Gloria Blondell was a knockout and the scene where she completely loses her clothes (it's described, not at all shown....except for her bra floating down in the air)was something else!

Maybe since it's showing on TMC again, they'll decide to release it to DVD.

Not sure who currently holds the rights (if memory serves, there was no distributor credit card on TCM's print), but The Twonky wasn't a studio production, it was independently produced by writer/director (and radio legend) Arch Oboler. Out of Oboler's 10 or so movies, I think only his last, "The Bubble," has been remastered and issued on DVD/Blu-Ray (and some scenes from the film's original release were lopped out of the negative and lost). I think what it boils down to is tracking down the negatives and finding a distributor who's willing to remaster/release it... both of which are huge obstacles for such an obscure 60+ year old flick. Never say never though; far more implausible things have happened.
