a commentary on t.v. controlling the mind?

the t.v. starts attacking him when he attempts to work on writing his lecture for his philosophy class talking about Individualism being the basis of good art" or something-----then again strikes down books on true history such as Lincoln, etc....only "allowing" him to read some trough like Passions of the Ages

was this an early commentary on how especially now one can see how t.v. has come to control the minds of many

?

only about halfway thru the movie and had come here and comment, as i was finally able to catch this bizarre flick finally
