there is an interesting article comparing Duke's character in this movie with his real life divorce trial, which was taking place at the same time.

Interesting but whether he made the movie or not his legacy would have been intact. Chata was obviously volatile making up lies to paint a negative picture of the duke and many testimonies by witnesses have proven Chata to be a liar.

"a crotchety rector (Charles Coburn)" Huh? Father Burke's character was kind, loving and caring. Giving subtle direction to both Steve and Carol.
