Jenny gives really boring parties....

In the middle of the movie, Crawford gets bored and tells her assistant to get together the usual gang for drinks at her place.

Then we see a group of about 30 men (none of them really strikingly attractive) in suits, hanging out at her fab apartment, with her being the only female there. She doesn't flirt with any of them...are they supposed to be gay theater fans?

Then she gets ticked off about something and tells her assistant to tell everyone the party's over.

Does Jenny give these evenings regularly? Why would anyone go back?

To keep their jobs.

Her invitations must come with an "or else RSVP with your testicles".

Yea... but what do you expect? She is a miserable witch! Someone who is still popular because the public loves her, but burned almost every professional bridge. She has no friends. Everyone there basically works for her. They are afraid to even MOVE at her party! lol In fact, within minutes of Jenny leaving the room, the music gets happier and we hear the sound of laughter... It's THEN that she throws everybody out, after all... the whole party was just an attempt to get blind pianist Tye Graham in her pad. It didn't work and she's no party girl! In answer to your question, Yes... I'm sure all Jenny Stewarts parties go down like that! ;-)

I didn't notice that! I'll have to look for it next time : )

I thought the party was the closest thing to a gay bar that could be depicted onscreen in 1953. And Joan played a very convincing fag hag (admittedly, she had real life experience).

I did notice one of the guys hanging fondly over the piano player...
