Anyone else like this better than the 1997 version?

I do. Obviously the effects are better in the 1997 version, but I prefer this version over-all.

I like the dialogue better in this movie, and I feel that the characters are more interesting (though not necessarily as likeable). But I think it's hard to compare Leo and Kate to Webb and Stanwick because their characters are so unalike. Leo and Kate have great on-screen chemistry and add depth to their Disney like romance, but Webb and Stanwyck give fantastic performances as troubled and bitter husband and wife.

But I like the portrayal of the sinking better in the 97 version and the atmosphere better. I also like seeing the story of the Titanic from a present day context (with Old Rose narrating) as it gave a better idea as to where the story of the Titanic fit in our history. I didnt like the random narration thrown in at the end of the 53 version and I didnt like the lack of resolution to the characters.

But what I like most about the 97 film is the music. It just adds so much more emotion to all of the scenes and it's really beautiful.

I think the 97 film is better, and whether people like it or not, it's the definitive Titanic movie. I do feel though that if the writers of this film had handled the 97 script, it would be better.

I much prefer this version to the silly 1997 version. Firstly, Barbara Stanwyck is a better actor than the entire 1997 version combined. Secondly,the story is actually about several characters and their lives and how the deal with the end when it does come. For some it's their finest hour, just as it truly was when the actual disaster occured. In the 1997 version, the silliness just gets more ridiculous as some characters obsess over jewelry and killing one another while hundreds of men women and children are dying all about them.

This version makes Cameron's movie come off as flat and contrived. The love story in this one is more believable, for lack of a better word.

The cast was supurb and the direction was excellent. The only thing I would say this film lacks is a little more about the ill-fated passengers in the lower levels.

Awww what the frick man...You should have said spoiler alert. I havent seen this version, and I really wanted to, and you just ruined the ending.

Just watched this today and was emotionally more involved than the Cameron version. Of course he didn't have the talent of Stanwyck. I cried a lot.

Wagner started "dating" Stanwyke during the movie. So how clean was it?
