I don't care how many times I watch this movie...

The final scene still makes me tense. I freaking LOVE this movie.

I agree with you 100%. I just saw the last 20 minutes on Movies!.

I have seen this movie over 20 times.

Me, too!!!!

I watch it whenever it is on TV. Is this William Holden's best role?

reply

Same here! I've seen it over 20 times--it still gets me. Those drums are perfect.

The smackdown of Price scene: I could watch it over and over. (Attack on Pearl Harbor. What time? Price: Six o'clock. I was having dinner. Sefton: Dinner in Berlin. They were having lunch in Cleveland.). (forgive me if I mis-remembered those lines)

reply

I've seen it over 100 times and it gets better with each viewing.

I also love it. On TCM they were saying that Holden tried and tried to get Wilder to make his character more sympathetic and Wilder refused.

That's because Wilder knew how great the payoff would be when all the prisoners went from hating Sefton and thinking he was a traitor to admiring him all based on one short speech where he lays all the cards out on the table. It is one of the great movie endings.
