It would make sense to not tell all of them, just the most trusted ones. Any sign of preferential treatment of Price, even inadvertently by one of the guards, might tip off the prisoners. You can see that in how quickly, and easily, they suspected Sefton.

I doubt it. Schultz needed to be told because he was the mailman between the commandant and Price. Other than that there was no reason to take a chance at jeopardizing Price by letting any of the other guards in on it. I'm sure at least one of the other German officers must have known but other than that it would have been a well kept secret.
