Now on DVD from Warner Archives

Split Second has just been released (1/12/10) on the Warner Archives series of high-end DVD-Rs. These somewhat bare-bones discs have generally proven to be of good quality since the series began last year, and a lot of otherwise unavailable titles from the WB, MGM, RKO and AA libraries have at last (or at least) gotten a home video release, some of them for the first time ever.

Even so, while it's great this film is at last out on DVD (it was on VHS), we'd been hoping it'd have been part of the new Warners Film Noir box set expected later this year, as a proper, pressed DVD. Still, Warners seems to take some care to give their Archives discs good sound and picture quality, and have usually succeeded.

The Archives discs have been showing up on some sites (Amazon, Movies Unlimited) at the frankly unconscionable price of $29.99, and worse, usually three or so months after they're released by Warner. However, if you order directly from Warner (go to WBshop.com, click on Warner Archives), the price is a more reasonable $19.95, and their shipping is pretty fast. (There are shipping charges.)
