Little-known film deserves a DVD

Not too many people know this film, but it's very tense and certainly different with its unique and off-beat plot. The first movie directed by Dick Powell and he handled the action and actors extremely well. Great cast and performances, knockout ending. For five months in late '52 and early '53 this was the only film under production at RKO as ownership of the studio see-sawed from Howard Hughes to a shady Chicago syndicate, then back again -- which gives it a very minor footnote in RKO's illustrious but ultimately doleful history.

"Split Second" was released on VHS in the 80s and shows up on TCM every so often, but I hope Warner Home Video, which controls most of the RKO library, gives it a proper and pristine DVD release before too much longer -- maybe as part of a Film Noir Classics Collection Vol. 5, in summer 2008 (the time of year they've brought out the first four volumes)? Don't know if they plan a fifth edition, but this film would be a logical addition to its ranks.

UPDATE, 9 years later.... Split Second has, of course, been out on DVD from Warner Archives since 2009, as noted elsewhere on this board.

I totally agree. This is a great film. I try to catch it whenever TCM shows it, but as you know, that is't very often.

Never heard of it before seeing it and now I'd have to agree that it's a little gem. Well worth a look.🐭

Just caught it on the Movies channel---never heard of it, and found it to be a surprisingly good and suspenseful film noir, especially with its unique and inevitable climax.
