'When you act like a b****, you get smacked like a b****'

as i watched the final act, this lyric from Dr Dre's 2001 album sprang to mind. in no way do i condone wife beating, however, it seemed pretty apt.

Its quite sad,,they start out all romantic, the world ahead of them hopes and dreams. But it ends up they turn into her parents.

Once a slut...always a slut.

Well, she was a teenager who remained a teenager, Harry was a teenager who became an adult at the end of the film.

Monika was the complete opposite of a "slut" before. She was fighting off perverts who were constantly touching her. She appreciated Harry's gentle nature and not only remained faithful to him, but also defended him. She was the strong and adventurous one of the two and it was this sweet, spirited creature Harry fell in love with.

Unfortunately, Monika didn't mature with all the hardships like Harry did and is now headed in the opposite direction as him.

I think at some point she will return, Maybe five years later and they will settle down again. Somewhere down the line it has to get old. At this point they are both better off with out each other.

I was expecting her to slap her when she escaped the orchard and started screaming at him on the boat. He could have save some hassle if he done it sooner.

Yeah, she had it coming.

I just watched this movie today and my gosh, towards the end of Summer with Monika, I despised Monika. Harry is working his ass off and going to night school so that ultimately, they can have a better life for them and their child. But all Monika does is bitch about how she has nothing nice to wear and no movie tickets - something along those lines. That part just made me want to jump into the film and yell, "Hey Monika! Grow the f--k up!"

Monika didn't need to work as hard as Harry - true. But would it kill for you to get a job, perhaps, as a maid, housekeeper, or a waitress? Something to where you are at least a little bit self-sufficient? By the end, I had no sympathy for Monika and felt bad for Harry. I sure hope Harry and the child turned out alright. That was partly what I thought about after viewing the film. I get Monika didn't have the greatest upbringing growing up in a working class family, but when one gets to a certain age, there comes a time when it is up for them to decide how to live their life and take responsibility for their actions. Harry seemed more capable of that than Monika in the end.

Regardless, it is still a great film but kind of detested Monika as a character.

Cast Away...It's like Forrest Gump, but on an island.
