And....in all probability, the collie(2)(one a puppy and one older) were Wetherwax Collies. The timeframe is right. Pretty awesome full circle.

You've got to wonder if this movie, at least the making of it, somehow led to the TV series Lassie. That very well could have been the same dog in the movie that played the first Lassie on TV. The TV series started soon after this movie played. And Jon Provost could have gotten the part of Timmy years later do to his use in this movie. And did you happen to catch a little "Eddie Haskel" in this movie?

reply

Was it on today?? no, I didn't catch Eddie in this movie...

Yes, it was on AMC either Saturday or Sunday (I forget which). This was the first time I saw it. And yes, Ken Osmond, who played Eddie Haskel in Leave It to Beaver, played Eugene, who I think was Mr. Hempel's grandson. I think he was supposed to be about 8 years old, which would put him just about the right age to play Eddie Haskel 4 or 5 years later. And Vera Miles played a small part too, about 7 years before she appeared in Psycho. And speaking of Psycho...did you know that funny man Ted Knight (Ted Baxter of the Mary Tyler Moors Show) played a part in the original Hitchcock version of Psycho, about 20 years before he starred in Caddy Shack?

reply

no, where was he in it?

Near the end of Psycho, as an officer is bringing Norman Bates a blanket, Ted Knight is the guard outside of the room where they were holding Norman. He doesn't have any lines, but it's definitely Ted Knight.
