Wonder if freedom of expression v. intolerance was unintentional?

Had this movie playing in the backgound and when John the Baptist has his 3rd speech, it became difficult to ignore that John the Baptist was promoting intolerance and central control of personal conscience, while the Roman province King was promoting public freedom of expression.

Yes, John does speak against general hatred at other times and eventually, the King had to become the heavy for the plot of the movie, but for a time, the King is the champion of the right to assemble, freedom of speech and freedom of religion, while John the Babtist speaks against individual peoples family heritage, personal relationships, private choices, and the "sin" of not believing his religious notions are the only truth.
