Why isn't MGM releasing this on DVD yet?

In late 2011 the MGM Limited Edition Collection released two of the three sci-fi films made by Ivan Tors in the early 50s: first Gog (1954), then The Magnetic Monster (1953). Yet so far they aren't coming out with the third Tors film, Riders to the Stars. How come?

The reason always given for this film being so hard to find is that there supposedly isn't a good enough color print of it suitable for DVD. It's true that the early TV prints of this film were reproduced in black & white, and many years ago it was thought all color prints were lost. But the film resurfaced in color as early as the 1970s and, as anyone who's seen it on its occasional broadcasts on TCM knows, it's shown in color on that network. That print looks perfectly good to me, certainly more than acceptable for a DVD-R (which is what the MGM line consists of).

This is even more perplexing in that some prints of Gog had a serious visual defect. That movie was originally filmed in 3-D, but in some prints there's a missing 3-D section that lasts about 90 seconds, which when reproduced makes the film look like a faded X-ray, its color and image distorted. Sinister Cinema told me two years ago that they were looking for a decent print of Riders, even though at the same time they were carrying this disorted print of Gog, and their print of Magnetic Monster wasn't especially good either. Why can't they or anyone use the same print TCM uses?

As far as I know the only outfit to have released a copy of Riders was Sci-Fi Station, but it (and Gog) were withdrawn from their catalogue three or four years ago. The MGM line has been putting out a lot of great titles, including many sci-fi films, and I simply don't see why the available color print of RTTS isn't good enough for them. We don't need perfect, just good -- and that print is perfectly good.

C'mon, MGM.
