Dr. Flynn's 'jets'?

So, the moment Richard (William Lundigan) and Jerry (Richard Carlson) step off the bus at the base and get a look at Dr. Jane Flynn (Martha Hyer), the first thing out of Richard's mouth is, "Speaking about 'jets'...."?

I mean, I know it's 1954, but for God's sake, she's a scientist, he's a scientist, his father's a scientist, and still, the only thing he can think of is some smirking, sleazy, smarmy, nudge-nudge remark about her "jets"?!

Good thing he didn't make a crack about a "rocket", or else he'd have been thrown off the project quicker than you could say, "Don't ask, don't tell."

reply

Your right, nobody with a degree in science would ever make a wise crack about an attractive woman's physical attributes.

reply

No, it's just that I would have expected more from someone with an advanced degree -- a modest amount of personal refinement and perhaps some professional regard (or at least restraint) concerning a fellow scientist.

Complimenting her, or even staring at her, is one thing. Getting crude and smirky is another. Let's face it, they're all sexists.
