Lux Radio Theater broadcast

In all my years of night owl movie watching, I have never seen The President's Lady, but I have always wanted to. Not the least because I listened to the Lux Radio Theather broadcast when I was 9 years old in Sept 1953 (see Trivia section).

I listened to it with my mom while she was ironing. She particularly wanted to hear the radio version of TPL because she had read the book. She said I could listen with her if I would sit quietly and not ask any dumb questions. I managed to do so, but it was hard. I don't remember much about it except Charleton Heston's booming voice. I didn't know who he was then, but, wow! did he have an impressive radio voice!

This really made me want to see the movie. But when it came around to our little small town theater a couple of months later, my mom and dad went out to see it by themselves, and I had to stay home with grandma! My dad said something like, "This is not a movie for kids. You wouldn't get it, and I don't want to have to explain it to you."
