what do you know about commies?

nothing...just that i don't like em.

best line ever...completly sums up the times...and unintentionally.

"Where The *beep* Are My Hard Boiled Eggs!!"

reply

It was very intentional. I don't think anything in a Fuller movie is accidental, and that line was him deliberately echoing the attitude at the time.

reply

Yes and it's also leaking the political prejudice of the time. When I was a kid in the 1960s I remember hearing some kids call another one a communist in a derogatory way. I later asked my father what a communist was and he said it was someone who believed that the collective wealth should be shared equally by everyone. I was very puzzled because that didn't sound like a bad idea so I couldn't understand why it was used as an insult.

reply

Your dad was as naive as you were. Communism has never worked, at any time, in any place. It's a perfect path to disaster. The same goes for socialism.

reply

Agreed, not only brilliant, but very insightful as well. Also shows how adorably innocent Thelma Ritter can be, lol.

reply

Don't forget her other great line in this regard: "What do you think I am, an informer?"

This after giving up any thief she knows for the right price.

"My brain rebelled, and insisted on applying logic where it was not welcome."
