One of the best Noirs for sure!
Hardboiled characters due to circumstances, not because they are evil. Thelma Ritter's performance is praised for a reason but I think Jean Peters' femme fatale really was the main attraction and carried the film. Widmark was solid and credible for the role. Might fall in love with this film on subsequent viewings, as easily as Peters fell for Widmark...
Very good noir indeed.
