Is there a "dark" version of Peter Pan?

The original tale(s) were somewhat quite dark in tone and I've always found the character of Peter Pan to be somewhat three dimensional. Others have said about his deeper personality too.

Is there a movie more accurate to the original books or what adopts this take on the tale?

Heard the 2003 film was pretty close to original.

I really should dive into thos franchise, seems interesting

Pan's already a piece of *beep* in this movie, so I would hate to see a "dark" version of him.
Once Upon a Time portrays him for what he truly is: a villain.

Storyboards for this version during the early 40's apparently were quite darkened, not surprising considering war time reality.

Makes me sad that this wasn’t the version they went with. If they would’ve went ahead in the 40s, we could’ve had a really dark classic similar to Pinocchio and Bambi. I used to watch Peter Pan all the time as a kid, but now I see it as a wasted opportunity.
