Off Limits and the use of the word Buffalo

When I watch this movie I love to hear the line they use when the champ refers to getting to some beautiful ladies, he calls them " buffalo's" does anyone know why they used that term and can you explain why they used it. I've never seen another movie from any time frame that uses that term for women.
