Cernik - Barovik Resemblance Uncanny

Whenever I watch this movie, I never fail to marvel at the facial resemblance between Cernik (Fredric March) and Barovik (Robert Beatty) - even with the latter wearing a moustache and lamb's wool hat. I thought, at first, that March was playing two roles, then realized that this would be impossible since the two characters physically interact on the screen, not only side-by-side (as in split screen), but also with one moving in front of the other. I wonder if the resemblance could have been intentionally heightened by makeup, but the reason would be a mystery. The resemblance was just another point of interest in this little gem of a film.

Also, the dwarf, whenever he spoke his lines, sounded very much like Peter Lorre.
