Unhappiness is our own invention

I'm not one for many romantic movies. This movie really surprised me.

We all know about Ophüls’s camera work. It did not disappoint in this movie.
I love everything about this movie. The writing and acting we're also top notch.
Takes place in the later 1800's. Boyer and Darrieux are married. It's the kind of marriage
where each knows of the others affairs but they really don't talk about it. It seems to be
acceptable as long as you don't cross the line. The line seems to be don't fall in love.
Darrieux falls in love.
The earrings are the center piece of this story. They change hands several times during
this movie.
The thing I noticed is the earrings meant different things depending who had them at that time
I have seen a few other movies by Max Ophüls they are all good but this one is incredible.
I already can't wait to see it again.
