Msgs were deleted so I wasn't sure what the response to this query was... so, is it out on DVD? And if so, where to get it?

reply

As of today, Amazon lists the Lili DVD as not "yet" available. No release date was given, but they do have an ASIN number for it already, "ASIN: B00005JNFO".
Seems that they do know something we don't know.

Netflix now shows this film in its "Saved" section, which is a huge disappointment. Was it ever released to DVD in Region 1 (or any other region for that matter)? I could have sworn I rented it and watched it a year or two ago, but now copies seem unavailable wherever I turn.

Oh, the whole film was on Youtube a few months ago but it seems to have disappeared. Must have been taken down. I understand copyright issues, but if a film has no DVD circulation how is anybody supposed to see it? It's such a shame that such a sweet film is so hard to come by. They mass-produce so many rubbish films then older films like this are so hard to come by.

Anyway I'm just happy that I managed to record it off TCM.

Hector Barbossa; now that's a pirate!

If they're going to have the clips taken down from YouTube, the least MGM could do is release it on DVD.

This needs to be released ASAP. It's such a sweet film and this was the film that made me crush on Mel Ferrer. I mean, sure you can catch it on TCM every so often, but I'm usually at work or didn't know it was on in the first place.

Hop to it, MGM.

All you had to do was go to Google and type 'Lili DVD' and there it was in the sponsered links section. The second one. Here's the link:

I've already bought my copy. :)

Thanks for the tip -- I've been scrounging for this DVD or VHS for years !!!
Great film. I didn't know it was inspired by Kukla Fran and Ollie, although I noticed a similarity. I've loved Leslie Caron for 56 years !!! Although I was disappointed when she wed Geordie Hormel.

I miss Big Band music and talented singers. Leonard Cohen is my idol. Civility, harmony, unity!

MGM's LILI and THE GLASS SLIPPER (finally in its proper 1.85 ratio), are up for pre-order at Warner Archive, to be released next Tuesday, October 9.

YAAAAAAAYYYYY! That's the best news I've had all year! God bless Warner Archives!!

reply

"Lili" is now available as an on-demand DVD in the Warner Archive collection, available through Amazon or directly through Warner Archive. The awful color separations from the now faulty Technicolor negatives appear to have been corrected in this remaster.

recorded my copy off TCM last week [in HD!]; seems to rebroadcast a couple times a year.

i'd be tempted to buy a DVD except, after all these years, the maker couldn't dig up any bonus/extra features: "Special Features: None"
