Quite a dazzling film in Technicolor

I was lucky enough to see Kiss Me Kate in Technicolor on the Silver Screen. The rich colors of the costumes were really quite dazzling, and added greatly to my enjoyment of the film.

I'm primarily a fan of films from the 30s and 40s, but I must say that some of Hollywood's best efforts came out of the 50s, when they were absolutely terrified that television was going to take away their audience forever. Kiss Me Kate was on a double-bill with Singin' in the Rain and the people who made those films certainly went all out to give the audience an experience they wouldn't forget.

When viewing the film, I thought it was odd how some of the characters would occasionally toss an object toward the camera. Luckily, the IMDb is hear to tell me that the movie was originally shot as a 3-D feature.

And I must say, as much as I liked Singin' in the Rain, I came to like Kiss Me Kate better, largely due to Howard Keel's superb performance.

The films of today just don't strike me as being all that impressive in terms of their use of color. They all seem to have the same washed-out look, with the emphasis being placed on making the film Really Loud so that the audience will be Suitably Impressed (not to mentioned deafened).

The colors are so amazing in this film, you would think Vincente Minnelli directed it.
