ehh...

I didn't like it one bit.
horrible acting in my opinion.
>.<
one the other hand... it was so boring..

Shakespeare is not meant to be as movies.
they all have been horrible-

reply

Horrible acting?!? Are you an idiot? Seriously, are you? It doesn't get any better than this.

reply

I think they mean they want Brad Pitt as Brutus and Jennifer Lopez as Portia. You know...the talented actors of today
/sarcasm off
that look like they've come out of a cookie-cutter.
When they say "boring" today, it's really a euphamism for "why is this film in black and white and why is the camera holding still for more than 10 seconds?"

reply

No car chases. No slo-mo wire-foo. What kind of 'good' movie doesn't have that?

It was an important film for Brando to slow that he didn't always have a mush-mouth, although he briefly resorts to that, perhaps as a joke, in his pause during the oration.

Mason and Gielgud, of course, are also excellent.

The films, today, miss good actors. The closest you get are the Australian and English stage actors. The American Idolization of films has gone on for some time, probably locking out quality actors who don't have the cookie cutter look.

And don't forget the flying monkeys armed with lazar rifles!

Are you kidding? This was brilliant even though it was a play turned into film. The acting in this was spot on and the best of all adaptions of Julius Caesar into film. I especially like Brando, Mason and Kerr in this - but they were all top acting.

I ressent the Pitt reference (he developped into a great actor, just watch Babel), but Lopez...she was great in Out of Sight, but her carrier never made the bang that movie predicted!

reply

Pitt's always been good, it's just that his looks, the media, and some of his film choices conspired to shortchange him.

The retorts of the defenders have become just as banal and insipid as the putdowns administered by the OP and his/her like.

There are many superb films based on Shakespeare plays, including this one, too numerous to mention here. One that you might find more to your, uh, taste is "Titus," directed by Julie Taymor, and featuring a riveting performance by Anthony Hopkins in the title role. It also features a huge helping of rape, torture, murder and mayhem, all of which you will probably also enjoy.

reply

It took me a little while to get into this film, but it grew on me. It was quite good overall, Brando was superb and I enjoyed Louis Calhern, but James Mason was the star, in my opinion.

But no screeching-tire car chases, fiery explosions, or machine guns!

I disagree with what you are saying, but I will defend to your death your right to say it;-)

I can't believe you guys let the OP troll you like that. He's an obvious nitwit troll.

Did you even watch it for more than 5 minutes??? Maybe one of the greatest acting performances EVER by Marlon Brando.
