shareI should've explained myself a little better. At the time I wrote my post, I was only about 20 minutes into the film and had never seen it before. It's been so long since then, I don't really remember what actually happened at the end. My point was that it's a plot we've all seen before.
Kind of like the soldier in the war movie who, at the beginning, is all bragging on his beautiful wife and kids, showing the other guys in his regiment his kids' baby pictures and all. You already know right then and there he's dead meat.

Actually your original post turned out NOT to be a spoiler. But with regard to predictable plot lines, most of life is predictable. And the value of vintage movies is not how well they stand up to contemporary standards of plot developement. They are glimpses into our past, and (as in contemporary films) they occasionally feature high quality acting performances, or cinematography, etc. They are rarely Shakespearean, or Cezanean. But most of us find value in Fords or Chevys and we don't expect them to be Rolls Royces.
