Why hasn't this been released on DVD?

I don't understand why Jigokumon hasn't been released on DVD yet. I do have it on VHS tape where it sits in the bookcase in the NE corner of my computer room (allright it's my back bedroom but computer room sounds a lot classier)along with all the other slowly decaying VHS tapes I get a fierce headache from watching but can't throw out lest I never get to see the movie again. To be honest, I must admit that some of the most treasured items in that bookcdase are things I taped on the TV that never even made it to a commercialy available VHS.

no kidding! An Academy Award winner and still not on DVD! and there is total crap being put out on DVD every week, even Blu-Ray/HD DVD! This film would be beautiful on DVD, especially if it were a Criterion transfer.

Amazing that it's been skipped over for so many years, must be rights issues.

I checked Netflix and they list this as Kinugasa's only movie they have (they don't actually have it...but they have the title listed in case the DVD does come out). What I'm wondering is that this is a director who has over 100 titles to his credit and there's not a single one of them easily available on DVD? Granted I didn't look past Netflix for availability, but still it seems odd that not only is this Oscar winning film not available on DVD but NONE of his titles seem to be out there.

Still waiting for the DVD. For heaqvens sake! The Movies Unlimited catalogue overflows with DVDs which aren't as watchable as home movies made by a drunken amateur who's neglected to take the lens cover off but masterpieces go un-issued.

(This is a reply to a 6 year old post) I just watched it on DVD. Go to iOffer and type in the title. You will have to do a little hunting.

reply

Agreed. iOffer is a very good site to find bootlegged copies of films that are no longer in print.

It will be released on BluRay in the UK on December 3, 2012 by Masters of Cinema. Knowing the standards of MoC it should look spectacular - if you don't have a region-free player now is the time to buy.

This may be what will prompt me to do so. I was waiting for the price do go down a bit more
