Good actress-yes. Good looking-no I think she was only decent looking when she was on the Big Valley. She was a tiny twig of a woman, w no real body. To each his own I guess. Part of the reason I NEVER bought into Double Indemnity. I did like this movie though. Mexico has never been a safe place, and why would you need to go to Mexico, when there are a ton of placed similar in the US??

shareAside from the fact that millions of Americans travel to Mexico every year even now, when it's much more dangerous than it was back then, there's the fact that Barry Sullivan's character had spent an idyllic week at this particular beach while in the Army. He and his buddy probably went down there on an adventurous lark, which he now remembers with great nostalgia. He wants to show his wife and son this place he remembers as being so beautiful (although in fact, even in beautifully shot black and white, it's ugly and dangerous) and doesn't stop to think that maybe an extremely isolated beach in a country where none of them speak the language is not a great spot for a vacation with a small child.
Also, it's worth pointing out that, even in this isolated corner of Mexico, the only human danger they face is from a fellow American.
Mexico is already HERE.
