You mean right away or should they have waited a bit? And amputate with what? Kitchen knife? Or maybe Stanwyck could have just bitten it off?

But seriously? Well, obviously, that isn't something one even considers before drowning is absolutely imminent. And the point about a lack of proper tools still stands.
