Funny and all, that scene is actually very touching and maybe my favorite moment in the entire film. The kids felt real (Wellman's kids) and I loved when he raced them to the other end of the pool, but not before giving the youngest one a head start. That scene felt almost like a moment in a Truffaut film! I kid you not.
Devine is alwayd Devine.
As a kid I always thought Andy Devine was Slim Pickens' father!
