Did Wade Williams add new FX footage?

I read that wealthy capitalist scifi fan Wade Williams bought this film and Rocketship XM in the 1970's, and eventually had new FX footage made for both films, and inserted the FX footage into the films.

The story about Rocketship XM is true and verifed.

But I don't know if this really was done with this film.

I saw this film on VHS in the 1990's...I wonder if it was the original version or one that had been tampered with.
