First time ever......

Well it is 2016, I am 53 years old and in the UK. Today was the first time I have ever seen this film, and I am glad I read the IMDb board about it.
It is no where near as bad as I was expecting from a 1950's sci-fi/monsters type film, though I confess Sci-Fi/Space travel is not my favourite film/book genre.
I agree with other board contributors that this film needs to be viewed through the eyes of a child, when it then makes a lot more 'sense' for want of a better word.
I assume I watched the UK release with the disappearing/appearing waistcoat and the extended observatory footage, but the ending ?............... The one I watched had the space ship blow up just after take off, and Dr Blake/Dr Kelston stood at David's bedroom door, but the very last shot is David asleep in bed, with no inference either way if it had been a dream or real.
I had to chuckle at both David's parents wearing all black after they had been implanted, and that Dr Pat Blake was in all white. Also that in the caves after being captured, she had to expose a bit of bare shoulder !
