Rock climbing glitches:

On one of the descents, Ryan starts down with the rope tied firmly around a boulder, in a way that he wouldn't be able to get the rope to let go when he got further down. However, coming back up, the rope is fastened to a thick stub of tree branch between two rocks, in a very unstable way, too dangerous to use in real life. An ideal way would be to go down with the rope doubled, and then at the end of the rope, just pull one end around and not leave any rope behind.

I don't care about the plot holes and I love this film but... it's odd. This might be put this way to show that Ryan is a millionnaire unconscious and naive and foolish
"to go down with the rope doubled, and then at the end of the rope, just pull one end around and not leave any rope behind." you mean pull over the side of the doubled rope which he didn't use to get down, right?
