I Think Grable is Terrific!

For me, my favorite is Betty Grable's character, Loco. How can you go wrong with a name like that, lol. She is so funny dreaming about her beer and sandwich. Plus she's just so nice to everybody.

I love her too. Especially when they are discussing Marilyn's date with the eyepatch.

Schotze - "Not bad for a one-eyed man"
Pola - "Is that all he's got? I thought somebody might have belted him."
Loco - "Maybe somebody shot him in the eye." LMAO!!!!!

Don't you wish you were me? I know I do!

Betty is my favorite to. I love it how the other girls dream of riches, jewels and money. She dreams of burger and beer. Lol Loco is adorable.

It was actually bratwursts and beer, but the point is the same. I thought that was a funny scene. I liked both her and Marilyn, who was funny with her blindness, but I couldn't stand the Lauren Bacall character.

I agree! She was so fantastic in the role. So cute and funny. I loved how she played a bit of an airheaded character but managed to make her so loveable.

Betty Grable is wonderful here. Really, this film has such a strong ensemble cast, it's hard to play favorite, but Betty was certainly a standout.

Grable is great, and-- despite an unbecoming hairstyle and clothes--looks terrific at age 36.(Tho she is hardly the type to have appeared on fashion magazine covers, as the film states.)

Also "HTMAM" was the only time Grable ever came close to playing a "dumb blonde." And even so, Loco was pretty canny. Grable's screen characters were almost always assertive women who didn't take any nonsense.

What impresses me is how trim she still was, you can tell she was small boned and her figure is so cute. I love how she thinks Lauren Bacall is such a genius!

I'm amazed that so many posters think Betty Grable was good in this role: I feel just the opposite way. First, she was visibly too old for the part: her face even looks a bit jowly from some angles (a problem she probably could have kept under control if she'd wanted to simply by losing some weight). Second, and more important, the part unquestionably calls for a New Jersey accent and a slightly vulgar New Jersey attitude, both of which Ms. Grable fails to supply. Instead, she just plays the part with her normal Midwestern accent and an inaptly ladylike manner, which constitutes inexcusably lazy and/or unskilled acting as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure there were any number of other actresses who could have done a better job with the role of Loco. For one thing, it's not as if actresses (and actors) with New York/New Jersey accents were a scarce commodity in midcentury Hollywood!

I agree..Marilyn is great but Betty's BEST! (Lauren sort of up there..)
