What happened at the end?

In the last scene at the diner when one of the guys pays with a $1,000 bill, we hear the girls fall off the bar stools. Two possible ideas come to mind. Was it that they fainted on the sight of seeing such a large amount of money? Or were their drinks poisoned? I'm not sure if the latter happened or not, but it would work in the storyline as a way of the guys killing their wives to get their money back.

Or was it just fainting from the sight of a $1,000 bill.

"What happened to my sweet girl?"
"SHE'S GONE!"

Uh, yeah, they fainted at the sight of the money. Lol them being poisoned is a massive stretch.

Poisoned?!!! What the hell kind of movie were you watching? They obviously fainted over the sight of the money and surprise over the fact that someone whom they thought was a "gas pump jockey" is loaded. As for the other two guys, they really were broke. A ranger and the other one was on the lam.

reply

I assumed they fainted.

"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"

I assumed all three women had been poisoned and were dead on the floor. Typical comedy ending.

Lol! Why in the world would you think they were poisoned; and how would that scenario fit in with what the characters were doing in the film? They simply fainted from the surprise that Schatze's new husband (the guy she thought was a broke gas pump jockey) had a thick roll of $1000.00 bills! THAT'S what made them faint...no poison anywhere in sight!!

I was just kidding. Your view of the ending is correct. If I was misleading I apologize.

No harm done....given the way they were eating, enjoying their food and running their mouths at the same time (so funny)! I guess there was ample opportunity to slip them a mickie while they were piling those burgers with coleslaw...and the hot dogs with homemade 'diner chili.'

I absolutely love the ending! For some unknown reason.....I thought the last shot was actually being able to see them lying on the floor. Having seen this film many decades ago....I don't know why I remember it ending that way! May be just the power of suggestion...LOL!

A grand in '53 is the same as almost ten grand today. They fainted.
