Killing a dog for no reason

I'm appalled that no one mentions the dog getting murdered and that no one in the film is affected by it including the boy and Hondo himself!!! It's as if they had to write the dog out of the second half of the picture or something. Really bad!!!

I guess the dog died just to prove how bad the baddie was. But I agree, it would have nice to add a scene where the boy or his mother showed a little marker or heap of stones where they buried the dog.

F-cking savages... to quote Colonel Kilgore. All of them.

I agree, I always wanted Hondo to express a moment of remorse in the subsequent scene. However, the Apache killed Sam the dog in retaliation to Hondo killing his brother. Great movie.

Happens again in Big Jake!
